Soliciting Instructors for BOC® Training

November 11, 2020 By NEEC staff

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council (NEEC) is seeking qualified individuals to provide classroom instruction in the Building Operator Certification (BOC®) program. The application due date for this solicitation is December 16, 2020.

Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge with others in the building engineering profession? If so, we hope you will consider becoming an instructor in the BOC program. The time commitment is part time, approximately 3 to 10 days in a calendar year, and can serve as a complement to existing full-time work commitments.

The Building Operator Certification provides job skills training and credentials to operators of commercial buildings in the subject areas of HVAC systems, lighting, electricity, codes, indoor air quality, and energy conservation techniques. Our participants are building engineers and technicians who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have 2 or more years’ experience operating and maintaining building systems. BOC classes are delivered by individual subject area, with instructors assigned to subjects within their area of expertise. Each BOC class comes with a fully developed curriculum designed to cover the subject in a one-day, seven-hour training session. It is not necessary for instructors to develop their own curriculum, though instructors are encouraged to supplement the material with their own experiences, classroom discussion and exercises, and “real world” examples of the concepts taught. NEEC provides compensation at competitive rates. Classes are held online during the COVID-19 period. Post-COVID, we expect to resume on-site classes at which time instructor travel expenses will be reimbursed.

By becoming a BOC-approved instructor, an individual can gain increased visibility within the facilities professionals community, access to a network of fellow instructors and teaching resources, and the opportunity to earn CEU’s. More information about the BOC program and the qualifications for instructors are below.

HOW TO APPLY
Individuals teaching in the NEEC service areas (WA, CA, and New England states) must complete a BOC Instructor Application and return it to NEEC. Applicants interested in teaching in other states can go to Locations for the contact information of local BOC providers. For more information, please contact Shino Severson at 206-588-8099 or email bocinfo@theboc.info.
